WHAT TO DO RIGHT NOW
A fake bank adviser called me: what should I do?
Act after a call requesting a code, bank approval, transfer or app installation.
First action
Hang up. Call your bank through its official app or the number on your card; do not call back the number displayed by the caller.
Then take these steps
- Tell the bank exactly which codes, payments, transfers or access you shared or approved. Ask it to secure payment methods and identify suspicious transactions.
- If you granted remote access, disconnect the device and contact IT support. Change credentials from another trusted device.
- Keep the phone number, time, received texts and transaction references. Contact the bank before spending time analysing the number.
Use the right check
If you transferred funds, the assistant prioritises calling the bank and requesting a transfer recall.
