How does this work?

An alarming pop-up or unsolicited call pressures the victim to install remote-access software.

« A browser alert urges you to call a supposed Microsoft support number immediately. »

Typical sequence

Warning signs

  • Phone number displayed in an alert
  • Request to install AnyDesk or similar software
  • Payment to unlock the device

How to protect yourself

  • Close the browser
  • Contact your usual IT support
  • Never grant a stranger remote access
